While Georgia receives a generous average annual rainfall of about 50 inches, the amount of precipitation varies significantly across the state. The wettest areas are the mountainous regions in the northeast, where annual rainfall can exceed 60 inches, creating a temperate rainforest in the southern Appalachian Mountains.
